![]() Although the gold in the Sierra forests of California is long since gone, the real find is still thriving – the wild. For four days teams will negotiate what the 49’ers of the gold rush era had to endure on a regular basis. The Mother Lode will run between 1000 and 6000 ft of elevation and will cover roughly 150 miles on bike, 50 miles on foot and 35 miles by paddle. The format is a four day, non-stop race that will see competitors and their support crews challenge their Adventure Racing skills while visiting areas of California that have not seen this much activity since the gold rush era. “The toughest part of this race will be handling the common mistakes that teams make during an expedition style adventure race: getting off route and feeling tired,” mentions Adrian Crane, director of The Mother Lode. And we’ll be able to watch every move they make, on or off course. With thanks to the boys over at Untamed Adventure, The Mother Lode has added the element of “live tracking” to the race, allowing friends families and spectators to keep track of their favoured teams. This year team Tecnu Extreme/ Staphaseptic is favoured to win, while the Yogaslackers and the Dirty Avocados are expected to finish among the top as well. Track the teams online at www.untamedadventure.com/advzone/Private.aspx.
