Page 1 of 4 Team Ecuador Chevrolet WINS Huarasinchi 2010 After 3 days of racing and covering over 300km, it was team Ecuador Chevrolet who managed to take the lead and cross the finish line at 2:40pm yesterday afternoon on the shores of lake Vahuaracocha. Temperatures were scorching as we waited in anticipation for the team to arrive, eager to congratulate Carena Dean from Canada who was racing with the three Equadorian boys. Team Ecuador Chevrolet had moved into first place somewhere after leaving Pinan at CP9. Team Buff Thermacool, who were moving strong and putting some time between themselves and the other racers, suffered a collarbone injury during the bike section and were forced to withdraw. Team Ecuador Chevrolet did not know that the doors to finish first had opened until they reached the ropes at Guadual. The expected finish time for the fastest teams was expected to be at 9:45pm the night before. However, tough trekking sections with difficult navigation proved to be a huge obstacle for almost all the teams. Team Ecuador Chevrolet lost 7 hours looking for a CP on their way to El Boliche. The ladies of Untamed New England were eventually forced to withdraw yesterday as veteran racer Trish Westman had been suffering with severe nausea due to a combination of dehydration and altitude and had spent the night throwing up and unable to in take any food. Despite her illness, she was determined to go forward and so the team continued for as long as possible until a team decision was made to skip the remainder of the race and be shuttled to the final kayak leg and short jog to the finish. The team was in great spirits when we caught up with them and had enjoyed Ecuador and the race. Milton Basement Racers were still moving forward and were expected to cross the finish line some-time late on Tuesday morning. I look forward to hearing their stories at the awards party this evening.
